Home: Going Back to College After 30

I went back to school at 42 and never stopped — earning two bachelor’s and four master’s degrees, with more than 250 credit hours along the way. I built this site because I know first-hand how hard it is to balance study, work, and life in mid-career. Many adults want to learn again but feel unsure where to start, how to afford it, or whether it’s “too late.”With years of experience as a product manager and a deep focus on AI’s role in learning, I designed Midlife College to guide, support, and challenge others taking the same path. We focus on practical tools, flexible learning, and digital confidence — all built around the realities of midlife. Here, you’ll find practical tools, humor, and guidance from real midlife learners who’ve done it — plus step-by-step support to earn career-boosting micro-certificates that fit your life instead of taking it over.Every guide, resource, and course on this site is designed to help you build skills that pay off immediately — whether that means advancing in your current role, starting something new, or finally finishing that degree you once put on hold.

Why Our Home Crew Gets It

Lucy: “Debt-free is the new degree.”

Lucy paid for her own midlife return to school by stacking FAFSA, a state grant, and an employer program — then helped three coworkers do the same. She’ll show you exactly how to build a funding stack (what to apply for first, what to avoid, and how to appeal awards). If you’ve ever stared at a tuition bill and felt stuck, Lucy’s playbook turns panic into a plan — with scripts, timelines, and checklists you can copy.

Jack: “Use AI to compete, not to cut corners.”

Jack’s the coach who turns AI into your edge: 10-minute reading summaries, draft-polish workflows, and research checklists that keep you ethical and efficient. He’ll walk you from “What prompt do I use?” to “I have a repeatable system for notes, outlines, and citations.” If you’ve got a busy life and a deadline, Jack shows you how to finish well — without feeling like you’re cheating.

Dave: “Balance is a skill you can practice.”

Dave learned the hard way that grinding without recovery kills motivation. Now he teaches a simple rhythm: 25-minute focus blocks, 5-minute resets, and small habits that protect sleep, energy, and sanity. Expect quick wins (meal-prep, calendar tricks, study playlists) and a little humor when things get messy — because they will, and that’s okay.

Ro is your always-on study buddy — the one who helps outline a paper at 6am, or talks you through test anxiety at midnight. Ask for a study plan, a reflection prompt, or a “sanity check” on your next step; Ro answers in plain English with links to the right page or tool. It’s the closest thing to having a classmate who never sleeps and always has your back.
